NWABR HOSTS NOBEL LAUREATE MARIO R. CAPECCHI’S VISIT WITH SEATTLE’S FUTURE GENERATION OF SCIENTISTS
The Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR), celebrating its 20th anniversary, welcomes Mario R. Capecchi, Ph.D., distinguished Professor of Human Genetics and Biology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and recipient of The 2007 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, to Seattle.
Dr. Capecchi will provide the keynote speech, “The Making of a Scientist: An Unlikely Journey,” at NWABR’s Annual Education Fundraising Dinner. Also as part of the program, he will share his love of science and devotion to future generations of scientists by spending individual time with Seattle’s Student Bio Expo Winners at their poster review.
Dr. Capecchi’s compelling life story of survival in World War II as an orphan in the streets of Italy to his world renowned research at the University of Utah and his receipt of the world’s greatest honor in his field, the Nobel Prize, will be an inspiration to all in attendance.
NWABR will also present Ms. Stella Bass, Science Teacher at Washington Middle School, with an “Outstanding Partner in Education” award. The award honors an NWABR educator who exemplifies excellence in teaching, has made significant contributions to NWABR’s education programs, and who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to science education.
